The highlight today was the return of a Bittern, this is now a regular occurrence in recent winters.

Strong winds and a high tide meant all eyes where on the sea today and the highlight was an unseasonal Leach`s Petrel that flew west during the morning.

46 Wigeons west, 32 Teal west, 37 Pintails west, 23 Common Scoters west, 4 Red-breasted Mergansers, 12 Red-throated Divers west, 1 Leach`s Petrel west at 10:53, 1 2CY Shag on the sea late afternoon, 12 Great Crested Grebes west, 35 Kittiwakes west, 130 Little Gulls west - most of these were over the sewage outlet late afternoon, 1 Guillemot west and 42 Auk sp.west.

Another decent passage of birds offshore this morning in a spell of calm sunny weather! The main feature was a high count of Great Crested Grebes, 42 flew west which is a good count for here. Also of note was the male Hen Harrier seen again and a single Snow Bunting by the sea wall.

A good start to the new year with a male Velvet Scoter being seen off the point, plus the Great Skua still around and a good count of Red-throated Divers moving out of the bay.
